[...]. Assembly is required, but not severe, you will need about 1-2 hours with occasional help and a little patience - but it is not difficult as the instructions are thorough and clear. Once assembled the elliptical takes up a large area of space, not to mention the open area surrounding it needed for safe operation. The elliptical is very solid, just make sure you tighten the bolts, as one loose one on the feet will cause wobbling. I was impressed on it's smooth operation, similar to that of one you would find in a gym. The programming is simple, allows for multiple users and allows you to put in your names, the display is somewhat simple looking, but does the job. Settings also allow for multiple personal work outs, that allow you to choose resistance and length of exercise times. Occasionally a message will display on your progress, typically words of encouragement, (good job or your doing great), or directions when resistance changes, (take longer strides or increase speed). I found that the display is easy to understand, and is simple to follow, the results can alternate or you can select certain info to be obtained all the time. My only dislikes are: 1) the "fan" is a joke (as they all are regardless of the equipment or manufacturer), and the "chest strap" works only after you are sweating, you can try applying water or spit to the sensors, but I found only once I have worked up enough sweat on me, does the chest strap really function, worse case I use the fixed mounted pulse monitors attached to the front of the display to check my pulse (which requires me to take both hands off of the elliptical arms) 3) The arms do a very poor job of exercising my upper body (limited range of motion compared to the foot peddles), and 4) the adapter/power supply is somewhat cumbersome - the plug in is at the front of the device, so you end up having to string the line across the room or use and extension cord to hide it under the equipment. I have tried other ellipticals at the box stores and found them poorly crafted or limited in programming. Overall I am very happy with this elliptical; it's very quiet, sturdy and easily changes settings/endurance when I wanted it to.

RPM sensor went out. Yes, the unit is under warranties but think about it.This is not a small exercise machine, it is not something you can easily put in the back of a truck after you assemble it, the exercise machine weight over 250 lbs after fully assemble. So, I repair it myself. For that reason, they get a low rating [...]. I would still give this unit a buy, but be warn of sensor problem.

I ordered this as an early Christmas present for my husband and he was thrilled. We wanted an easy to use, effective cardio machine and it's exactly what we envisioned. We will definitely refer friends to purchase one. It was easy to assemble and we've already starting using it days after delivery. Great experience, we'll order more equipment in the future!

I would like to give this 4 & 1/2 stars.
Variable stride does take a bit to get use to, but I prefer it as I can go side to side, up and down to change things up a bit.
Make sure to check the height of the unit and where you are putting it. Mine went downstairs in an older home. This is a measurement I should have taken and not a knock on the 460.

This is a great machine. I also own another very good brand of elliptical machine so they do compete with each other daily. It took a little getting used to the sride since I had been using my other machine for long time... but he Schwinn definitely works other muscles so I use both everytime I exercise. I love it!!!

[*] I was a steel mill maintenance welder for 20 years and know quality when I see it. I am very impressed with the quality of this machine. There is nothing cheap about it. All the parts are heavy duty. There is no "slop" in the berrings or machined parts. The operation is smooth and tight. This machine is very well made and I don't anticipate any trouble. I'm actually very happy about the whole thing. It is very quiet when in operation, almost silent. I was making more noise. The assembly instructions are detailed and easy to follow. One minor thing about the serial number location...it's on the bottom of the machine. The operating instructions mention this. It should have been mentioned the very first thing in the assembly booklet. I put it together by myself. I'm 5'6". They recommend 2 people for assembly and it would be easier with 2 people. Some of the parts are a little heavy and awkward to handle by yourself. I didn't time myself, but I'd say actual assembly was a good hour. Plus some time to look over the booklet and sort out the hardware and nuts and bolts.You can not fold any of the parts down for smaller storage. You would have to unbolt stuff. It does come with built in wheels for moving, but at 200 pounds find one place to keep it set up.

My wife and I each use this product 4 - 6 times per week as a way to get in shape and lose/maintain weight.
It was easy to assemble and would have been easier with a second person.
The variable stride is great as my wife and I are significantly different in height. Operation is smooth and quiet. The noise does not disturb me as I sleep or watch TV in the next room. The customizable profiles are great too.
This has been a great addition to our workout regimen.

So far so GREAT! This elliptical is convenient, fairly easy to put together and has made it so much easier to workout efficiently. I am used to going to the gym so I was concerned this wouldn't provide a good enough workout, but it is great, lots of resistance levels and you can customize your workouts so it is AMAZING!

It has only been a couple weeks so hopefully this feeling lasts!

I ran cross country for years, until I tore up my back and had to quit, and have longed to be able to run again. The Schwinn 460 has given me that ability. Since my feet never leave the pedals, and my heels hardly ever touch, there's minimal impact, therefore my back can take it. Plus, with the automatically adjusting stride length, it's easy to find a stride that's comfortable.
One of my favorite features is the heart rate monitor. It enables me to know when it gets higher than my target rate, which, at my age, is a major factor.
My one warning would be to check the ceiling height in the intended installation area. The machine raises you about 22" off the ground during use. At 5'-7", my head is only a few inches from the ceiling in my basement during a workout. A couple inches taller and I'd have problems.
Overall, I'm rather happy with the product. I have only started getting back into rhythm, but the 460 feels comfortable and doesn't take much to get used to it.

Took 2.5 hours to unpack and assemble but all very easy with the exception of one step (but I figured out why they put in 2 wrenches and then things went smoothly.) Amazing how the machine automatically changes stride based on how my own movement. Very quiet but huge as all ellipticals are. I am VERY happy with my purchase and use it about an hour a day! Now we'll have to wait and see how it holds up with use, but think it will do just fine.

Use this 5 days a week for 4 months now. I like this machine better than the commercial equipment at the gym. The variable stride is awesome and I find this machine more comfortable. Most elliptical machines hurt my feet, this one doesn't. Quality seems great, but only time can tell for sure.

Big box. Took 30 minutes to get parts out. Suggest you just cut the sides of box down from the start. 2 hours to assemble. Instructions clear. Bright screen. Smooth, quiet action. Just amazing that you can change from stair stepper to walk to run after just a few minutes of getting used to the machine. I have only had it for about 3 days but it is just as good (maybe better) than the commercial gym machines. You can move it though it is really BIG filling a small room. It has front wheels to help move though I haven't tried using them. I put mine on a rug and just pull the whole thing to get it out of the middle of the room. LOVE IT. Great job Schwinn!

We are using the equipment daily for a cardio workout, and it is great. For a low cost unit, it is stable, and esy to asemble nad use. The variable stride is a big plus as it accommodates both my wife and myself with no adjustments. My only problem is that our ceiling is low (7-ft), so there is not quite enough head room. Otherwise, we are very pleased with the equipment.

Only had this for two days but everything is great so far. It is farely quiet. It is not as sturdy as a commercial elliptical as I can see it sway from side to side about an inch when I'm using it (may just be because it is sitting on carpet), but I don't feel this at all. I'm 180 pounds. The construction is quite sturdy and does seem like it will last a long time. It feels very smooth but it does take a few minutes to get used to the variable stride. Some people relate that it does not give much of an arm workout as a normal elliptical but it feels really good to me. If your thinking about getting this I would definetly recommend it.

The machine is great. It is the quality of a highly expensive gym elliptical, but for a fraction of the price. It is smooth, quiet, and has plenty of workout programs for long-term use. The only negative was putting it together. The process and instructions were great however one piece was slightly bent causing a lot of effort to straighten it to finish putting it together. I love the machine and would recommend it to anyway.

Easy to assemble, very sturdy and a joy to use. Electronic interface could be improved but is functional. The unit comes with a fan about the size of the smallest fan you can buy for a computer case...and it quit working on the first day. Other than that, great machine.

I have been recovering from whiplash injuries and this elliptical has been great for me to get back in shape. It is easy to use and has a smooth movement. It may start out a little choppy when you first use it but it's not a defect - the machine is figuring out what your stride and movement. After a few seconds its perfect and never has repeated the choppiness now that it knows my movements. I have only used manual so far but the display is easy to read and it gives you various messages along the way such as take longer strides, step up the pace, etc. If using the swinging arms and want your heart rate checked, wait until the end of th eroutine to hold on the bars if not using the the heart rate strap. Moving from the swinging arms to the stationary ones is a bit awkward if you are moving at a faster pace. I felt like I was going to loose my balance but it still worked out fine. Deffinantly glad about the purchase. Even the assembly was easy - took about 1 1/2 hrs and that included looking for several washers we dropped and couldn't locate right away. We have the unit in the open so we don't have a need to store it. It is shorter than some of th eother brands and that was one reason we bought it due to space issues but it is very sturdy to be on and has no wobbling during use so far - not even when using it as a stair master.
