I have only had the machine for a month and 1/2 now and it has been good. only thing was in the beginning is that there was a squeak. loosened the 2 bolts for the arm extension about a 1/4 turn and problem was solved.

a really great and sturdy product. fairly quiet, though there was a squeak after a few uses in the handles but with adjusting the screws helped. but otherwise a very smooth and comfortable elliptical. the assembly was a bit more than expected, it took me about 4-5 hours. and there was a typo in the instruction manual. but i, a 5'3" woman, was still able to do it on my own. although i will admit that an hour of the setup time might have been due to cleanup of all the styrofoam mess! still very easy. though might be difficult for those with arthritic hands. plus, i saved money with no sales tax in my state!

I've been SO disappointed with this machine. I bought it about 4 months ago and every time I use it there is this squeek that we can NOT find where it is coming from. I used to own a Pro Form which was HORRIBLE also, and I thought this would be an upgrade. I have to say, if it wasn't so loud I would enjoy it. Because it does give you a really nice workout but the squeek is NOT worth it. Invest your money into something more expensive! I wish I had!

You cant get much better if you want a good work out in as little a time as possible. It REALLY gets your heart rate up and I feel like I have accomplished something everytime I use it. It does squeak a lot but this problem was fixed with a little extra grease applied to the connection of the arm bars.

Comes in a box with lots of tape, plastic, and styrofoam. You pretty much have to destroy the box to get to all the parts. Kudos to the guy in China who packed this initially, because it is yours to keep once you decide to unpack it. You see about 20 parts at the beginning of assembly, and I had it together in under 3 hours. Probably less time if you read the instructions closely, since I messed up with the 4 big flat washers. No noise on day 1; increasing air-piston-hissing noise after 4 sessions, but not bad at all. It is sturdy, with a good feel. I read all 29 reviews before I bought this elliptical, plus consumer reports. I believe I made a good choice.

The price was reasonable and the quality good. I have had no problems with unit and, after a year, I still use it and find it challenging. It has enough programs to keep up my interest. I use it about four times a week for an hour each and it has held up well.

Overall I like the machine. After 2 weeks the machine started getting a little noiser. A suggestion to people: you need to tighten bolts or whatever once a week. I was a little diappointed in the calories I burn when I'm done. I bought the machine to use when the weather is bad. I still enjoy jogging/walking outside. Much better than a treadmill though!

You don't have to spend a fortune to get a good low impact workout. Highly recommend buying this model. I owned the Schwinn model 431 and it lasted about 2 years and then died. This model is cheaper but was better built than my old 431.

I have been using this baby at least 4 times a week for 60 - 90 minutes at a time for the past year, and I totally love it. It is still in great shape, and is still a quiet ride. The program variety is very nice, and the elliptical is surprisingly sturdy for an at-home machine. It definitely gets me sweating, and has been the answer to my road-wrecked knees (running had been starting to cause me lots of pain). The compact size allows it to fit easily into our apartment's small second bedroom amongst the rest of our junk in there. If you are serious about getting your workout in on your own time, this is the best investment ever. I know not everyone is able to stay committed to a workout routine, but I definitely believe that having your own machine that feels like gym quality within arms reach is helpful. I would highly recommend this elliptical to anyone and I totally love it!!!

The stride is perfect, the machine is quiet. It has plenty of different programs to change-up your workout or you can just go manual. I have mine in front of the tv, so instead of vegging, I'm moving. I don't regret one thing about buying this machine.

I need the low impact feature most. Daily use of this piece of equipment has made a dramatic difference in my heart rate and overall health. In fact, I anticipate being able to discontinue blood pressure medication soon as a direct result of having this runner at home where I can use it daily.
As a big man I wasn't sure it would hold up to my weight and usage, but it has proven to be smooth, durable, quiet, and easily comparable to machines in the gym costing twice as much.
The only different thing I would do is get the heart rate monitors in the moving handgrips.
Overall, I couldn't be more pleased and recommend this highly.

We were unprepared for 2 hours of assembly when the unit arrived but that may be standard. After about 18 months, the Schwinn 430 is holding up well! We've used it an average of 5 times per week and it shows no sign of wear and tear. After some intermittent clicking noises for the first few months, it is quiet and smooth now. Though we do not have a basis for comparison (this is our first exposure to ellipicals), we are pleased and feel the Schwinn 430 is a good value.

I got this machine because my wife wanted something to allow her to exercise inside the comfort of our house in front of our large screen tv. She absolutely loves it. I've tried it and find it a great alternative to my bike in the garage on hot days. We went to the store to try out a few and liked the Schwinn the best for their performance/price. The only thing that I regret is that we bought the carpet mat for it but found that we preferred placing it on one of those office chair mats.

I think for the money this is a decent piece of equipment. I do have issues with the heart rate monitor, it does not work! Also after it was put together it squeeked very loud. After figuring out were the squeek was comming from my husband loosened some bolts only to have it come undone the next time i used it. He has since put on lock tight and it has been fine since. I love using this elliptical, it is a very good workout, and has tons of programs you can follow!

I used to go to the gym all the time and use the ellipticals there. Now that I have 2 small children it's just not possible. I am thrilled to have this piece of equipment that is very high quality in my own home! It feels like I am at the gym! Developed a squeak that I discovered (from google search) was due to over tightening the arm pivot bolts. Once the bolts were loosened a bit, everything is fine. Overall I am happy with the purchase. The UI is not so great, but I don't expect it to be at this price. One thing that bugs me is that the display shows a cyclist even though I set the switch to "EP" on the back. Not sure how RPM and MPH are relevant to an elliptical trainer... Maybe I got the wrong display unit. Not a big deal. The trainer does what it needs to do for [$] delivered to my door - hard to beat that.

Has a nice smooth motion to the elliptical and was very easy to put together. Definately get a great workout on it. The only negative things so far is the squeeking you get when you overtighten the bolts and it takes a minute to get a heart rate reading. I would think they would mention not to overtighten certain bolts to avoid the loud squeeks. Hopefully with enough tinkering, it will go away.

I have had my elliptical for about a month & use it about six days a week.

It provides a great cardio workout and is easy to use. Some have complained that it's a bit noisy, but I added a little extra lubrication in some of the moving parts during assembly & after the first few days (when - I'll admit - it was pretty darn loud), I haven't had a problem with noise at all. For a smaller unit, it is pretty sturdy. Not as sturdy as the bigger models you'll find in a gym, but then again, it doesn't weigh 500 lbs either. Only when I'm sprinting on it do I find that it rocks just a little bit.

I am a little suspicious of the electronics. They were glitchy at the beginning, and they don't appear to be really well constructed. I haven't had a major problem with them yet, but I worry about that over the long term.

I don't use the higher levels of resistance much. I'm more interested in the cardio and working up a good sweat for an hour or so, but I've tested out the top resistance levels and they're pretty tough.

The only minor complaint I have is that the 18" stride is a bit small. I'd prefer a longer stride for a better workout, but this is still pretty darn good.

Great elliptical so far. It was easy to put together and is very solid. When in use it is very smooth, unlike a Nordic Track that I tried in a store. The wheel rubbed on the housing and make a terrible sound when in use. I would recommend this to my friends and family.

Found unit compares favorably with much higher priced units found in local dealer of high-end products, and is very smooth -less unwanted impact/stress- on the joints.

I use the Schwinn Elliptical every other day and it's great - it's sturdy and easy to use. My 10-yr old daughter uses it too and operating it was easy. Occasionally though, it makes some noise esp when I do it fast but otherwise, it's quiet.

This a very heavy piece of equipment--about 100 lbs. My boyfriend and I had to haul it upstairs to my apartment with some effort. I unpacked it without much trouble, but there was a piece of the main core of the machine that was bent. I called the manufacturer, who told me that I would have to ship the entire machine back if I couldn't find a way to fix it. Fortunately, my boyfriend was able to use locking pliers to bend the piece into place. After assembly--some help from the boyfriend required again--it worked well, but developed a squeak about 15 minutes into my second workout. It took a few turns with the allen wrench at the footplate insertion onto the wheel and the squeak went away. I love being able to come home, change, and exercise for 30-45 minutes rain or shine, energy to go to the gym or no. This machine also doesn't take up much space. I'm very happy I bought it.

I am a Mommy of 3 kids aged 4, 3 and 1. I'm tryin to get back the body that I remember having before kids. I've had this for about 3 weeks now, and love it a lot. I enjoy that there are different programs to choose from. It took a while to set up, but it wasn't hard. The directions were simple and they supply all of the tools and parts you need. I use mine every other day for at least 20 minutes. I am working my up and am actually at 26 minutes. It's quiet, easy to use. I like the water bottle holder, but it's at a little funky angle. Everything else is working great. I would recommend this to my friends.

It took a little time to set up the trainer but the directions were good and the pieces all well marked. I use the elliptical trainer about four times a week. (1 hour each day) It does not stress the knees, it's quiet and a smooth ride. The programs provide a change of pace.

I am very happy with this machine, overall. The cons are that I was unable to use the arm bars. I may be too short and they can't be adjusted. When I initally used them I ended up with lower back pain due to leaning forward to reach them. My chiropractor encouraged me to use the machine without holding on at all and swinging my arms. Wow! What a workout. My balance has really improved, too!

My surgeon recommended an elliptical after I had surgery on my knee. After doing research I went down to one of the sports stores in my area and tried them out. I was very happy with this machine. I started using this machine at 6'0" tall and 240 lbs. The Schwinn felt very comfortable and stable. The only thing that I wish they added was a backlight on the computer. If the area is not properly lit it can be hard to read the control panel. No other company that I found on the internet or in store could come close to mercantila's price.

I've been doing some sort of aerobic exercise at least 5 days a week for years. I got plantar fasciitis from power-walking, rotator-cuff problems from swimming, and knee problems when using a recumbent bike (Schwinn). A friend with a $2000+ elliptical trainer recommended buying one. I don't spend that much on an exercise machine. He was surprised at the quality of the 430 for the price. I chose the 430 because of the price, because having had a Schwinn recumbent bike I knew Schwinn makes quality machines, and because I found one locally that I could try out (at a much higher price than Mercantila). I've been using it for about 9 months and have had no new pains. And my knee pain has pretty much gone as I assume it's being strengthened during my workouts. The machine was making a noise at one point but it was only because a bolt on one of the wheels became loose. Tightened it and no noise problems since. The only problem with the machine is that the heart rate monitor doesn't work well at all. Other reviews I've read mention the same problem.
